Hello friends. It’s been a full two months since I posted on my blog. In seven years of blogging, that’s a first. What happened?
Well, I didn’t see June coming. June was definitely not the best month as we lost a treasured family member after a lengthy illness. But there were other things. Small things, bigger things … life.
I also had (have?) a slight problem with my blog and WordPress. After an update came down, every time I tried to write a post all I got was gobbledygook. My tech guy was not around and I felt defeated so I let things slide. All the doubts I have about blogging as in who cares? who’s reading? what do I have to offer? (on and on) were swirling around in my head.
I lost momentum.
Along came July and things improved. I could have written a list with 200 (or more) things I have to be thankful for. My life is good and rich and full.
And yet … I didn’t write a thing. I started to ruminate as to how us bloggers put so much of ourselves into our blogs. We share our recipes, our tips and tricks, and our life … and that makes us vulnerable (especially that life bit.) A simple gratitude list reveals so much! I’ve gone over a few of my gratitude posts and there’s a lot of personal information in those seemingly random lists. But that is the life of a blogger and we choose to share.
July came and July went.
So here we are at July 31st and and I’m back (at least for another month.) I know this for sure because I spent the last two weeks of July preparing 5 new posts! Ta da!
In order of appearance:
- 15 Ideas to Make Your August Amazing (a fav standby style of post)
- All Things Ice Cream
- Tips on Getting the Most out of your Local Greenhouses, Markets, and Eateries
- Bella Grace Blog Hop (August 24) and a Giveaway!
- That Chippy White Door I Found in Saskatchewan (a Reveal)
I’m hoping I can break through this blogging block with five simple posts and get back on my feet. Then I’ll be ready and full of enthusiasm when my favourite and most inspirational month of September rolls around.
But remember, even this veteran blogger doesn’t have it all figured out and I’m finding it increasingly hard to blog (and share) these days.
If you’re still with me … thank you from the bottom of my heart xo
I love your posts and your photography! You are very inspirational to me!
So very sweet! Thank you Carolyn, I appreciate that more than you could know!
I’ve only posted once a month since April on my own blog. Though I think about it often, somehow those thoughts never get transferred to the virtual page. In my case it’s probably pure laziness that gets in the way. But you have been missed! And I’m impressed that you’ve already got five posts lined up and ready to go. You inspire me! I’d be sad if you vanished permanently from this space.
Hi León! it’s always so lovely and encouraging to hear from you. I can’t thank you enough … I’m really really hoping this blogging spurt will get me back on my feet. xo
It’s easy to get off track when it comes to blogging! Always happy to see your photos on IG in between the posts! Enjoy the rest of your summer :)
Thank you Shauna! I’m a huge fan of your blog – and you inspire me so much. Thank you for taking the time today to comment xo

Hi Barb,
Good to see you. I can’t begin to tell you the number of times I have gone back to your blog as well as your
IG acct to reference something you have said or posted. I look for you each day. IG is so crazy that I am always late to every party now. But what I am trying to say. Is that what you have posted and shared with so many of us over the passed few years is amazing, beautiful and I for one would not be the photographer I am without it.
Thank you Barb.
Ann ???
Ann, and Barb, may I echo what Ann just wrote!? She said it so well. Barb I LOVE your posts, recipes, helpful tips, your treasure finding stories…everything, and your photos are just always top notch gorgeous! My blog sat idle for a period of this this year while, as (1) I decided about continuing (who reads, etc.), then decided I also like it as a journal of things I’ve done; (2) had cataract surgeries…which went smoothly. Then one day, I wanted to start posting again. Maybe a little break is what it takes for us to get reignited. I love your blog and hope you’ll continue sharing, however works for you. ??
So grateful for your visit and kind words Beverly. As I wrote to Ann, my blog is the one place I should not neglect – it’s far more meaningful than Instagram to me. And yes to the journal thing … I often revisit my travel posts and am so very grateful to have them.
Ann, I can’t tell you how much I treasure your support. IG really is crazy and sometimes a bit of a downer (but mostly inspiring which is why I still plug away on it :) I actually love my blog more and it’s the one thing I shouldn’t let suffer. I’m deeply touched by your comment my friend xo
This photo still is stunning….gorgeous!
Thank you xo
I’m so sorry for your loss, Barb. No wonder you needed a break. It’s great that you’re back and I love that picture. It’s gorgeous!
Victoria, thank you xo
I always look forward to your posts Barb and your photography is stunning :)

Thank you Marijean xo
I will always be with you Barb; though I am often late. Your blog is like a good book. I have gone back to your achive and read many of your old posts. So please make sure your tech guy keeps the machine well greased and backed up!!
Very happy to see you back at it. It is nice to know that you are human too. LOL.
