Perennial poppies

June 14, 2012 by Barb 25 Comments

Last spring I took a pot of flowers which I had bought at Walmart and stuck it in the garden to add some instant colour. And there it sat, blooming happily all season. However, I did not expect to see any of them again! Granted, it did say the flowers within were perennials but . . . I was skeptical and it didn’t matter anyway so I simply enjoyed them for what I thought would be one year.

So now I have this lovely poppy blooming it’s heart out. There have been about 12 blooms so far and I see no end to the buds. Don’t you just love it when something like that happens? They look almost fluorescent against the sea of green that is my garden.  It cheers me every time I walk by.

An unexpected gift.

It is very difficult to capture poppies in the sunlight without over exposing the light area … you did it perfectily. I am impressed … to say nothing of loveing the Poppies … they are beautiful. Lucky you that they came back :)

Yes, I can imagine they must be standing out against that lovely mass of green you showed us in your photos last week – lovely shots of them.

Fantastic photos from your poppies. So beautiful and open. I find, it is really difficult to catch poppies in the right way.

Oh, I love poppies! They make me think of my grandma’s house. I tried adding them to my garden once, but they didn’t do well. Maybe I should try again. Your photos look beautiful :)

What a gorgeous color! The seed heads on these always remind me of a pepper shaker. So glad they grew for you again.

Stunning! – These are Iceland Poppies (sadly mine did not weather our winter) but yours are so bright and cheery.

I deliberately scattered hundreds of seeds from three different varieties of poppies one fall…not one plant came up in the spring! Your perennial poppy is so colorful…so beautiful.

I have sowed poppy seeds at least 6-7 times and not a poppy has shown up yet in my garden. I may have to try the pot from Walmart trick! Love them!

No poppies in my garden…I’ve planted them several times….so I know what a treat it is to get them back. Good for you.
