Little did I know when I woke up this morning, I would find myself committing to NaBloPoMo (National Blog Posting Month) on BlogHer.com. I tend to feel most inspired when I first get out of bed, which may explain why I’ve jumped in so impulsively, plus I immediately thought it would tie in beautifully with my Blogging Bits and Bytes series.
I won’t try to explain the round-about-way I found this challenge … it confuses even me … but to recap:
- I’m going to post daily on my blog for the month of November.
- I’m going to participate with BlogHer only as much as I am able. I am not going to sweat it. But there’s lots of great info over there – you should check it out.
- Every post will not be a blockbuster (we talked about that).
- Some days (maybe most days) it will be a photo, and a quick wave before I take off on some adventure.
If you’re thinking of jumping in – do not stress that you’re starting late … it does not matter. What does matter is that you use this to stretch your creative muscle. Dig back into your archives and bring forth the posts that are sitting there, waiting to see the light of day. Don’t worry about BlogHer or anyone else. Just do this.
I’ve been reading Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert who says over and over if you have an idea and don’t run with it, someone else will. Well, there are thousands of people running with this idea, but at least I’m one of them. There’s room for all of us here.
The next Blogging Bits and Bytes newsletter is scheduled to go out early next week but if you missed the first two, you can find them on the Blogging Bits and Bytes page (check the tab at the top of my blog.)
And I’ll be back later with my Sunday Sundries feature! TWO posts in one day!

Wow- I hadn’t heard of this. I might check it out- except I didn’t post yesterday, so I guess I’m out. I published every day for 2 years and now just 5 days a week. Your blog is so beautiful and professional- I’ll be interested to see what you do! I know it will be wonderful! I love that top photo- it is so BARB (I love your style!)! And now to catch up on reading the rest of your posts (I’m behind. . .).

Wow! that’s quite the record, Melinda! well done! I so appreciate you stopping by and leaving your amazing sweet comments xo

Hi Barb! Good for you diving into this challenge! I too had read about the challenge but felt I had so much going on that the timing just wasn’t right. But perhaps I really don’t need to post every day. Just increasing the number of blog posts I do would at least allow me to participate in a very small way. I do have several ideas for posts with video and pictures to match that haven’t made their way to the blog yet. I have been enjoying your Blogging bits and bytes, which has helped me brainstorm ideas for my blog. Just need to get the kitchen remodel dust to settle so I can think clearly! Good luck with your challenge!

I always love (!) stopping by to see what you’ve created, and today your potting bench is a sight to behold! I love all the autumn pieces, and the great light. Good tips on blogging … love your Bits and Bytes. Instead of adding to my list, I’ve had to decrease it, as I want to enjoy every minute of the next two months, but as I create, I’ll add a photo on my blog. I have some Christmas-y ideas for stills percolating in my head and have a few new props to use….always extra fun. I found some primitive ladders over the weekend…but no price on them in the shops. They look like old barn ladders…now I’m on the prowl for one like it, not recreated. Have a great day Barb!! Thanks for sharing.

This is quite a commitment to post every day Barb and I could likely do it if only a photo and minimal text was involved. Good for you to take the challenge and the potting bench with rustic elements is a lovely start.
It would take some planning on my part to show an interesting bench like yours for I put everything away and leave the top clear, mine is also inside a shed.
I look forward to our next B and B newsletter.

Barb, I’d love to participate but at this short notice I would run out of time much sooner than I’d like and also my laptop is still not in a good shape so I’m afraid it might let me down. Anyway, regardless of any formal scheme, this challenge could actually be accepted during any month, right, and I’m going to add in on my list of blogging tasks and assignments. I like the idea!
Beautiful photos, I especially love processing of the second one. Enjoy the challenge and the blogging thrill of participating in NaBloPoMo! :)
Barb says
You are absolutely right, Petra! You could do this at any time!

After such a long hiatus from my blog since moving house, I don’t think I can commit to a daily post, but I’ve joined Kim’s new course starting this week. Hoping this will give me the kickstart I need ! Good luck, I will be looking forward to your posts !

Hello Barb! Oh my goodness blogging every day, now that’s a challenge. I received your newsletter on Thursday this week and read that you had joined NaBloPoMo. I thought it was such a great idea that I wanted to do it too without really thinking my blog would be added to the blog roll. I applied to add it on the very last day. This morning I checked the NaBloPoMo blog roll and realised I had been added which means I now have to blog every day this month!
With a very busy full time job, a family of teenage sons, a husband, a cat and a pug that will be a very big challenge. However as you say not every post has to be a “blockbuster” so I am hoping it will be manageable. I look forward to following your blog every day too and seeing what everyone else who has joined this challenge are doing. :)
Thank you!
