Distraction is, always has been, and probably always will be, inherent in woman’s life

I read Gift From the Sea many years ago during a painful time in my life. It was an escape, and something to hold on to. Anne Morrow Lindbergh’s beautiful words and incredible wisdom helped soothe and heal my soul.
Even today I turn to it when looking for answers … so I’d like to share one of my favourite passages:
For to be a woman is to have interests and duties, raying out in all directions from the central mother-core, like spokes from the hub of a wheel. The pattern of our lives is essentially circular. We must be open to all points of the compass; husband, children, friends, home, community; stretched out, exposed, sensitive like a spider’s web to each breeze that blows, to each call that comes.” “… woman’s normal occupations in general run counter to creative life, or contemplative life…
My experience is such that these words apply at any age, and any stage, and reminds me that I would no … have put my creative life on hold at a moments notice, to attend to family life. That is not a bad thing, and I wouldn’t want it any other way.
However … roles do change, and even though I was worried about my grown daughter this week, I found myself on my deck, creating arrangements and taking photos. I found it a pleasant distraction and … oh …
distraction …
seems it can go both ways …
*Spider web … at the lake … early one morning …
Hmmm when I need distraction,I clean. Consequently when I’m creating the house gets dustier and dustier When I get to a point where the work wants to sit a while…. out comes the vacuum.
Your kind of distraction is way more fun than mine. An alternate concentration is always preferable, grin. Yay another excuse not to clean! Glad you found your way to taking more beautiful photos.
Hi Christine! cleaning is an excellent distraction! and thank you so much for stopping by xo
Love this. So much truth to it. And you’re right. I wouldn’t have had it any other way either.
