Autumn Preparations

…or is that winter preparations?

We’re having the most gloriously warm and sunny autumn this year. There’s hardly any rain to speak of, lots of colourful leaves, and amazing light.

Every time I go out into the yard with full intentions to clean up flower beds, I somehow never get to them… photos happen instead.

So yesterday hubby coaxed me outside, and after I spent a half hour playing, he managed to get me to clean up the two front beds. Progress.

He was busy blowing leaves off the roof, lawn and driveway, and then he roto-tilled the garden.

Today I have three more flower beds to clean up, four autumn bulbs to plant, and I’m done. It’s a cozy, familiar feeling when the yard is all tidied up for winter. Now we just wait…

It’s true, getting the gardens all tidied up feels good but for me at the same time, it feels sad. I hate to put the color to be for the winter. Just a little while ago I brought in the two cactus that had been enjoying my porch because overnight temps are too cool for them now. Soon it will be the rest of the plants. And also dumping the rest of the annuals from their pots. Then … as you say … wait for the new growth and color.

It’s that time putting the garden to sleep, our temperatures haven’t dropped yet , we are having a real mild spell

I have been the same way ~ I cleaned up the back beds a couple of weeks ago but some of the flowers were still in bloom so I left them. Now it’s time to get back out there! The front is all done so at least my neighbors think I am on top of things ~ lol.

I admire all of your hard work in the yard.. Our weather has been so mild that I still have flowers blooming and it’s so hard to pull them up even though they are kinda pitiful….The nights are getting cooler so I guess this week I need to go ahead and as you say “get ready for the winter”….Your autumn shots are awesome…

I remember when I did lived in a part of the country that had fall pre camera crazy and never really paid much attention to all the color. Oh yes I enjoyed seeing the color but never as much as I have since my discovery of photography and light. I can understand how hard it must be to have to stop and clean up what has been an enjoyment the past few weeks. I guess the reward will be to do it all over again next year and then have the Spring to look forward to with all those bulbs. Beautiful image of the leaves on the steps.
