I enjoyed the most ordinary day yesterday; gardening, arranging flowers, and even went for a drive after dinner, simply to enjoy the early summer evening.
But later a text arrived with disturbing news; my youngest daughter had cut her hand badly. By the time I was informed, she was on her way home from the ER. She’s going to be OK, but it is fairly serious, and I’m shaken to the core.. it’s what parents do, they feel their children’s pain like it’s their own.
A lot of my blog content has been based on the practice of gratitude with my weekly “Sunday Sundries”.
I never take an “ordinary” day for granted… I’m always grateful… but I’m suddenly struck by how a person can’t “stockpile” their gratitude. When bad things happen, and they do, it’s hard to find the silver lining.
Today, I’ll be sending my daughter flowers, love, and cyber hugs (and looking for that silver lining.)

Two things pop into my mind Barb; three years ago when my own youngest daughter phoned from the hospital 1750 km away from me to tell me she had a broken elbow that needed surgery. I know just how you feel. One’s heart is hammering and breath seems suddenly to require more effort.
Hope your daughter recovers easily. Mine did, her surgeon was excellent but she does have major metal as a result. Silver lining? Her elbow works!
Number two after visiting your site the other day after Kim’s peony prompt with your beautiful photo, I found and copied the poppy seed chiffon cake recipe and made it on Sunday for my brother . It was so huge when it came out of the oven I had to take a picture, and promptly dropped my camera. Silver lining? My toe took the brunt of the camera’s fall so I have a bruise and a cut instead of a broken camera. The bonus, the true silver lining … the cake was wonderful. Thanks for sharing the recipe.

Oh my gosh, Christine! I can’t even tell you what your comment means to me … at once comforting, and also comical. You made me laugh out loud (on a day where I feel in limbo … waiting to see what develops.) I was shaking so hard last night I had to go have a long, hot, bath. Silver lining so far? Comments like yours ..
I’m thrilled you liked the poppyseed chiffon cake and that your camera survived. I’m also thrilled that your daughters elbow healed and it works … that is the best part.
Thank you again, from the bottom of my heart!
