I took these shots around 4:30 in the afternoon when the sun is lower and the light is warmer. In the winter in my house, the sunshine pours in and splashes across entire rooms. It’s a real mood booster and I’m always expressing gratitude for it (even though it shows the dust … oh my … the dust …).
So that’s what I love about these shots – the warm sun and how it makes me feel.
Even though it’s Texture Tuesday, I didn’t use a texture. But don’t worry – I used Kim’s LR preset “kk_berrily”. I love this preset but it doesn’t work on everything – it tends to flatten colours and tones. I think it worked here because of the sunlight. Then I ran an action from Florabella called Warm Vintage which I’ve seriously become addicted to.
Have you ever run an action and then picked it apart to see how they do it? Well, the Warm Vintage action de-saturates, adds warm tones, adds a subtle bright haze, and then a warm bluish tone. Knowing that has led me to try writing some of my own actions – they don’t always turn out, but it’s a great way to learn.
Today I’m off to get my haircut! woo hoo, do I need a “do” or what! The dust will just have to wait!
Have a wonderful Tuesday!
I love the eartthiness of your shots. I have never got the hang of actions I really must try again.
This turned out beautiful! I just discovered Warm Vintage and love it as well!
Beautiful! I love the texture and warm light. I sometimes pick apart an action too, each time I learn something new.
You certainly did a great job choosing the texture to go with your photograph…so pretty…
This is beautiful, Barb!
Warning about writing your own actions…completely addictive, but oh so much fun! :-)
Have a fantastic day!
Beautiful!! I love the soft feel and warmth of your images. I’ll have to play with actions more (I’m still getting used to Lr). Enjoy your day!
The sun and warmth on your images today really absorb into my mind. These are beautiful, and yes, I too investigate the steps in an action! I have made a few LR presets, but no actions. I love using them. Have a wonderful day!
I love how you captured this wonderful light, great DOF !
beautiful with the warm sun light!
I absolutely love the warmth you captured in your images, the composition is superb as always. We need a little warmth in this harsh wintry weather we’ve been having.
I’d love to write some of my own actions and need to work on that but have never broken one down yet. Something else I’ll have to try.
Beautiful job at capturing these images!
Gorgeous light! The pinecones are such a warm focal point. Love these shots!
This turned out wonderful, Barb !
Love those warm tones !
Nice week,
Sylvia
Have missed seeing you for awhile Barb, and all of a sudden, see that google has put you under promotions where I rarely look. Love your shots and how you have processed them. have a great week!
i like the wood textures.
I do love the tones in this! Absolutely gorgeous!
Love the earth tones and that you picked apart the preset.
The tone is nice on the photo. I love http://thecoffeeshopblog.com for her actions and tutorials on how to use them and she explains how to make actions. I always forget to start recording when I’m editing and haven’t really made very many actions since I’m kind of lazy and don’t want to write every step down and start over so I just use hers. hahaha She also has some great textures, frames and other freebies. I’ll have to check out the site you mention for actions. Thanks for sharing. :)
coming from Kim’s Texture Tuesday — I played around with pine-cones too — love how you shot your still life right on a wooden table?
The late afternoon light worked well as you said.. Thanks for always sharing..
Hugs
The muted sunlight is just beautiful! You are so knowledgeable — I’m glad I found your blog. I’ll be learning a lot about photography!
This is gorgeous, Barb! A wonderful photo in itself and a wonderful processing, too!
Yes, I do sometimes look what an action really does, but I can’t write my own as I use PSE, and I guess I wouldn’t be patient enough to really write one even if I had Photoshop ;-)
Lovely photos – so warm and with earthy colors!
Lucky you to get all that light! Yes, I have looked at presets to see how they achieved the action. Very cool.
