Our lakeside community has a summer picnic every year. It starts out with supper – hot dogs, hamburgers, beans and cold salads. Ice cream and cookies soon follow.
All the kids run around like crazy – chasing each other, or swimming or sliding on the slip-n-slide – they simply have a blast!
The adults have a few drinks and lots of conversations. It’s a great way to catch up on what everyone has been up to.
The evening ends with a spectacular – and I mean spectacular ($10,000.00) fireworks display. Yes, you read that right! Some watch from shore but most people cruise out quietly on the lake and sit and watch from their boats. It’s quite the experience.
I had planned to set up my tripod on shore and shoot some great prize-winning photos . . . but the pull of the beautiful, calm, and glassy lake overrode my desire . . . and this is what you get whilst sitting on a boat that is gently rocking . . . hmmmm, maybe I can call it ‘art’?
I love how the lake shows up in this one:
Truth be told, I had my shutter speed too slow as well . . .
Oh well, maybe next year?

sounds like a fun time and you got some cool shots of the works:)

I think your shots is great. When you shoot fireworks at very short speed your result is only dots. Not very fun.

I think you have captured some amazing images.

Very artsy, Barb! I’ve been unable to capture fireworks….and lately, I haven’t even gone to a fireworks display. ;-)

This year I used a tripod for the 4th fireworks and it was so much easier. Still, yours are lovely…almost like they are dancing!

Sometimes we get a unique image when making do with what we have. Then when doing and using all the right stuff, we can’t seem recreate the effect.

Your firework shots were good. It does take a lot of practice and using different shutter speeds and f/stop settings. Once you find the settings you like the best your all set.
