Shooting still life on an iPhone can sometimes turn out as good as, or better than when using a DSLR.
I find it easier to shoot “from above” images since the phone is so much lighter. I also like that I can set the camera for a square format, which is probably my favourite ratio for images lately.
I took this photo with Camera+ and edited it in Mextures. When I checked the metadata, I was surprised to see that this image is 1068 x 1068 at 240 ppi which is plenty big enough to print.
Yesterday I posted my Pear Still Life using my DSLR. I was able to control the focus and depth of field much better with my DSLR, but I’m still kinda liking this one, especially the composition.
So what’s my take-away today? It’s that I’m going to have to figure out how to see square while looking through a rectangular format. I’ll let you know how that goes …
Thanks so much for dropping by today!

I so agree, easy peasy with the iPhone and liking what I get and process better than my big girl. I usually always try and remember to take a shot with the iPhone when I am doing a still life for that reason. Love this shot so much Barb, great from above.

Oh and I wish there was a setting on my big girl for a square format. I wonder if that will happen down the road with our DSLR’s?

I like shots from above and this is perfect……You are encouraging me to use the square more…I just don’t think about chaining it….

Just Beautiful and I agree. It is easy but still want to grab my big camera.. and not having time for either.
Your site keeps crashing. Im not sure why but I can open the bokeh. Maybe you have raw images also.

Just lovely, Barb! Really the topdown view and the composition. So hard for me to remember to take photos with my iPhone AND the DSLR, but I’m getting better!
