Props I Can’t Live Without

January 27, 2015 by Barb 20 Comments

When Kim asked me if I’d write a post for The Studio|Online about 5 props I couldn’t live without, I knew right away that I was going to have a bit of fun with it. If you’re a member of the Studio, and saw it in the classroom, I hope you enjoyed it!

Today I thought I’d share two of the props I couldn’t live without; white crinkly linens and vintage jars. Oh, and I know I’m not alone in this … everyone loves linens and jars …

Props for Still Life

I also love the pink peonies I picked and dried last summer. Actually, I didn’t set out to dry them, I just left them in the jar until the water evaporated. I was about to toss them, when I stopped and thought about how much they reminded me of little ballerina dresses, all layered and frothy. I put them on top of my antique hoosier and that’s where they’ve been sitting ever since.

I processed this image in LR, adjusting exposure and cropping it. Then I applied one layer of kk_sybil at 50% opacity.

So beautiful and I can’t believe how the peonies stayed like that. Yes, like a ballerina dress!

Ah, yes, a ballerina dress…so pretty! And Yes, to bottles, linen, old labels, something about the vintage look of bottles and labels that draws me in. Even the worn, cloudy glass. Yes, I loved your post and your props Barb!

Vintage jars, my love as well. I’m happy to see that I’m not the only one who leaves flowers out a little too long.

I’ve always had a thing about glass…my great grandmother had a curio cabinet that she kept all her good crystal, and glass ware in and I was always mesmerized. This is so beautiful!

Beautiful display of your old jars! On a recent walk through the woods, I came upon a dump site that someone had been digging through recently. Several unusual shaped bottles and jars were tossed aside. Didn’t take me long to gather them up!
