Mortar and Pestle

October 31, 2014 by Barb 15 Comments

Another week has flown by and it was a busy one! Whew! Apart from the huge nap I had on Tuesday, it was go, go, go!

I make no apologies for that nap. In fact, if it was possible, I’d have a huge nap every day. I find that sometimes I even sleep better at night if I’ve had a nap during the day. I know, it makes no sense …

Anyway, yesterday, after I got my hair cut, I had to stop at HomeSense. I mean, it’s right next door to the salon. What’s a girl to do?

That’s where I found this granite mortar and pestle and thought it would make a nice friend for the white set I found ages ago at my junque shoppe.

Mortar and Pestle, Salt and Pepper, Friday Finds, Keeping With the Times

Salt & Pepper

This image was inspired by a photo I found on Pinterest. It’s from Nicky&Max Food Photography. I know mine doesn’t even come close, but I’ve found that I learn by doing and I plan to try a few more versions of this. I am so loving the dark food photography … can’t get enough of it … so I figured I just need to practice, practice, practice.

I’m simply drooling over the amazing photography I found on that site. I don’t do martinis, but I could do rosemary crackers … yummm!

Thank you for stopping by, and here’s to a wonderful weekend everyone!

What a great find. I constantly find myself practicing and making mistakes, but learning as well. Great job.

I knew I liked you and the fact you like to take a nap seals it. Sometimes I feel ashamed I take a nap on some days, WHY do I feel that way is beyond me. I think the body knows when it needs to rest. Love the new find and how you photographed it. Happy Halloween in your new home, bet you will be going to your favorite coffee place today. enjoy

Well, you’ll be mixing up pills and potions in no time at all! Such a fun photo and such great contrast between the two sets. There are days when a nap is just the ticket but to be honest, I seldom sleep during the day. I might rest, but sleep doesn’t come. So glad you had a restorative nap.

Love the contrast in the photo! I’ll have to check out the link. Make no apologies for the nap- when they happen, I think of them as a gift! Have a great weekend, Barb!

You are so not on your own in the napping stakes. The whole of Southern Europe takes a daily nap. They call it the siesta. My husband hails from Barcelona and he’s a really big fan of a post-lunchtime nap. Sadly he works in the City of London where such customs are not encouraged, but on his down-days he’s a compulsive napper. I don’t do it myself: I’m a terrible insomniac and it would cripple me for the night if I did. Love your pestle and mortar – and the idea of dark food photography Hadn’t thought about it before, but it’s a good way to add interest – or, in my case, hide the burnt bits. All the best, Bonny

Congratulations on the new mortar – and on being inspired by dark food photography! It is enchanting when something really is captivating … I look forward of your beautiful food photography images, Barb (and maybe a recipe every now and them … I’m going to try your truffels recipe soon:)

I love mortar and pestles as well. I have a wonderful wooden one from HomeSense. I have to steer clear of that place! Wonderful photo as always.

Naps – me, too! Busy – me, too! Loving the dark food photography – me, too! Your version of the mortar and pestle is magazine perfect. I’m doing the same thing here – practicing the look of photographs I find inspiring – and shopping for props!

I love your image and your mortar and pestle sets. Your image is so beautiful with the dark back ground and the bits of salt and pepper scattered. I have a mortar and pestle set on my list of things I want to “buy someday”; I’ll have to adjust that list to include both a white AND black set!
