Cactus? Tarantula? Both?

April 7, 2014 by Barb 9 Comments

We were just strolling along, enjoying the scenery, minding our own business. Suddenly I spied a monster… eek! what is this?!!

As I crept close to it with my phone, I felt a tad uneasy. I was pretty sure it was simply a cactus buy oh. my. word. it looked like a tarantula that got stuck going in … .

I posted this shot on Instagram and I got mixed reactions. Some people were pretty dismayed, but others were suitably impressed.

One poor lady wanted desperately to “un-see” it … I kept watching my followers to see if anyone would abandon me, but so far, that hasn’t happened.

There was a lot of discussion as to what type of cactus it is, but so far, no conclusions.

I have a good lead on one idea, but not everyone agrees.

… aacckk … keep back …

Is nature not incredible!!? It almost seems like this plant is trying to look fearsome to keep predators away.

Shivers…

Anyone have any ideas?

I am still saying it isn’t an Old Man, when you are here on Wed. you can see my Old Man and judge for yourself. It is a cool one whatever it is, I have another one in a pot that looks similar but it hasn’t bloomed like that.

It is actually rather cool looking Barb! I like the colors of it, and the third picture shows off its shape. I’m curious to learn what it is named.

How you managed to turn a hairy cactus into ‘art’ amazes me. Kudos!

Well, you know how I love strange things, and I for one was a little disappointed that it was NOT some kind of cool insect. Oh and btw, I have held a tarantula before, it was pretty cool and a little eerie all at the same time. And yes, nature is so very incredible!
