The other day I was looking through Google Reader and saw a post by fellow blogger, Jennifer at Town & Country Living. She had recently moved her blog to WordPress and knew that she wasn’t showing up in people’s blog rolls as a result (and I know that for sure because I hadn’t seen her for a while). You see, for some of us, when we move to WordPress – our followers from Google Friend Connect can’t see our feeds any more (so sad…)
Then how could I have seen her post, you may ask…
She had simply gone back to her Blogger dashboard and published a post from there! I just about fell off my chair… you mean you can do that? I thought “how brilliant”!
I immediately went to her WordPress blog and left a comment about how I had found her, and then I re-subscribed to her new feed.
We had a little discussion and she encouraged me to try it for myself. Since she had been subscribed to my old Blogger blog, she said she should be able to see it.
I signed into my old account, wrote a post about how I had moved my blog to WordPress, where to find me at my new address – www.keepingwiththetimes.com and published it. And guess what? she could see it – plain as day! Eureka!! Since then I’ve had several friends visit me and tell me that they had been wondering where I went and were glad to have found their way back.
So for the next few months I’m going to have to publish the odd post to Blogger to remind people that I haven’t dropped off the edge of the earth – I’m simply at a new address and to please, please come see me.
If you’ve moved your blog from Blogger – perhaps this little tip is just what you were looking for! If something I wrote here isn’t clear – please give me a shout and I will try to answer your questions!

This is an adorable photo of this little winter squirrel. Glad you are finding your friends again. May I ask why you switched? Just out of curiousity

Hi Jeanne, I kept thinking I wanted to try moving to a self-hosted type blog. I wouldn’t have switched to the free version of WordPress since it wouldn’t have made much difference. So now I own my content on my own dot com site. My daughter moved her blog and is very happy with it – even though she did have some growing pains too.

Oh, and I heard that Google Search Engine loves WordPress blogs…

This whole things about moving to WP and the Blogger dashboard confuses me. I want to move my blog too, but I’m concerned about losing all my followers/subscribers. Your post just showed up on my blogger dashboard feed, I clicked it and ta da here I am. I know some people who have moved to WP and every post they put up shows on on blogger for me. Someone told me that you just have to update your feed.
Barb says
Hi Tricia – I know – it is confusing… my feed did not automatically show up in the reader, while my daughter’s feed did (after she moved to WordPress). I don’t really know why.
I did some research and most of what I found said that you lose your followers and you may not show up in the readers as before. I’m pretty sure you lose your followers – but check it out – maybe you can find something I didn’t.
It’s a big decision – I don’t regret it – I’m simply re-building and hope to grow my blog – it’s very slow though…
I am going to check Feedburner to see what I can see – thanks for the suggestion.

This is a wonderful tip to share. I recently read that when you go from one place to another you should keep the old domain so someone else doesn’t take it (it’s confusing to look up something and find something else w/the same name there). Glad you found your friend and some friends found you. :)
Visiting today from Thursday’s Favorite Things.

Great tip, Barb! That is the cutest, little guy ever. He is so plump, looks like he’s dining well at your feeder! :)

Your blog showed up in my reader right away….right after your blog saying you were about to move. I haven’t seemed to lose anyone who moved. It’s all strange, to me.
Cute little squirrel….even though I get frustrated with the one here emptying the feeders so fast. We’ve tried all kinds of things to stop them. Nothing works.
He seems to have a shorter nose than our squirrels. I guess there are a lot of different kinds.

Thanks for the tip! Long time ago I tried wordpress, because I like to keep up with news, but my blog felt “lonely”:) So, maybe I should try this!

Great tip, Barb!
Another thing that can be done, which is what I did…
If you owned your own domain name in Blogger, you can just have it “point” to your new blog by making some changes to the server names. When someone clicks on your old URL, it will direct them to your new one.
It sounds complicated, but if I can do it, anyone can!! :-)
Have a wonderful weekend!

That’s what I did with my old blogger blog as well to allow all my old Google Friend Connect friends to find my new site. I could also redirect the blogger site if I wanted to. Sorry I’ve been out of touch lately but things have been kind of crazy in my household! Great photo of the squirrel.

Good info :) I did the same thing…moving from blogger to wordpress. I still go back every so often and write a post about what I am posting about on my new blog and I’ve had readers make the switch too. I decided to keep my old blog alive and going to help feed traffic to my new blog.
Found your post on Thursday Favorite Things! I would love to have you share this on The Creative HomeAcre Hop today :)

Barb, that’s so nice of you to share this little trick. And thanks for the shout out! The person who migrated my blog for me told me that showing up in blog rolls after making the move is kind of hit and miss. She didn’t really know why some people had probs and others didn’t (and she’s pretty knowledgeable). Anywho … I don’t mind putting a quick blurb up on the old blog for now. Glad it’s helping you, too. :)
