Friday Finds: My Long Lost Photos!

You know how some days you get up, you have a plan; you know exactly what you should be doing but an hour later you find yourself immersed in something totally off-track?

Well that was me yesterday. I started out fully aware that I should be writing a tutorial but I ended up organizing photos in Lightroom … then 8 hours later I realized the day was gone …

But oh my goodness, a light bulb has come on. Suddenly I am able to see photos that have been buried for years and years.

I must admit it started out quite rocky when I imported the first batch and couldn’t find them, and then when I did, I couldn’t figure out how to move them. So I went and sat on the sofa for a few minutes and thought to myself “Barb! just use your head!” So I went back to the computer and followed my instincts based on what I’ve learned over the last year or so. I had to let go of my Windows Explorer and Bridge “brain”. I had to think differently.

Anyway, loooong story short, I’ve organized over 20,000 photos so far and it all makes perfect sense! Oh and hey! there are those vacation photos from 2009! wow! and look at all my flowers and still life images! and look at the grandkids – how much they’ve grown!! Now my husband will be able to look at all the photos I’ve taken (something he’s been wanting for years). I am so stinkin’ proud of myself! Plus, everything is also backed up, neat and tidy.

So that explains my tulip image this morning … it must have aged while waiting for me to find it!

Awesome!! It is such a great feeling to finally “get” something, especially LR, isn’t it? It is also good to go with an instinct sometimes, instead of a real plan. Love your “aged” tulips! Have a nice weekend Barb.

I need to have one of those moments or hours, because yesterday my day went something like yours but I am still stuck in the Windows, Explorer frame of mind I think. I woke up thinking I need to accomplish this once again, I don’t know how my LR get so un-arranged. But I think my hard drives came lose from my Macbook and now I have the darn “?” marks in LR and have to find them on the hard drives which I saw them yesterday but couldn’t get them back into LR yesterday. Need to go back and reread Kim’s tutorials once again and maybe again to get it done once again. This just takes me so much time and I seem to never get much of anything else done. Ugh, I swear I have the hardest time with all of this stuff.

So glad the lightbulb has come on for you and everything is organized for you, Big Woop.

Love that you have found a new and better way of organizing your photos, and wow, 20000 photos organized in only one day. A day well spent I would say. i have an iMAC, and one of the things that i love about this computer is that it automatically organizes your photos by events. I remember how amazed I was when I first got this computer, and voila…. here were all of my photos in a way I could really enjoy them… you can also just click slideshow for an;y event, and there are many awesome types of slideshows that just appear. Glad you have a new method though, and will look forward to seeing some of your awesome shots Barb! Have a great day!

Yes, you really have to think outside the box, so to speak, with LR. Wow, 20,000! I’ve not been that brave. I only have 2012 forward and that was when I started using LR. I’ve been to chicken to attempt to import my earlier ones. I know where they are now and I can find them with relative ease, so I figure it’s not broke and I’m not going to fix it. And your photo says ‘spring’ … which I know you’re hoping will soon find you.

And my husband thinks I have a lot of photos. :) That is great that you have them organized too. I love looking through old photos, seeing how my daughter has grown and how my photography goes through different phases (some good, some bad).
    Your tulips are beautiful!

I am so glad that you found your precious photos! Have you got Carbonite? It is a lifesaver to me. If something happens to my computer, I just call them up and they restore everything.

I have LIghtroom but have had difficulty with working it. Need to make use of it though so will probably get a book.

Your tulips ans boots vase are beautiful!

Too funny, aged…… But what a huge feat you’ve accomplished! and now it’s done. I’m guessing you have them all in one catalogue. I started a new one Last year because I felt the old one was sluggish and getting too big. hmmmm….

    Congratulations, Barb!
I know how wonderful it felt when I finally got all of my images cleaned out/in order.
Now I just have to remember to keep them that way, so that I don’t have to do it again in a year or so.

    Have a great weekend!

Sometimes I have to walk away, get some perspective and when I return to the computer: Voila! Sounds like you had a very productive day. Lightroom is awesome; I use it every single day. :)

Great work on getting all that sorted. It’s also something that I need to do myself and is weighing on my mind. Hope you’ve had a great weekend so far and that the rest is even better.
